This is my first pass at preparing a session 0 for a Mortician’s campaign at my LGS. Next week I will run through James D’Amato’s excellent book on Game Play to ensure I’m not missing too much major topics for my session 0.

Session 0
a full meta mortician’s session. we’ll talk about making
characters, the world, the roll of the players in storytelling, my
table rules for the game, where to find safety tools and how to
submit them,
synopsis/catchup
SHARE world building
- we will be plaing in the central valley
- using maps from 2012
- players will have directed input into factions/world building
- fate chart worldbuilding
SHARE world facts
adult nature of morticians
- pcs will die in bad ways exposure/trapped/ripped apart
- pcs/npcs will be desperate/drug addicted/crazy
- other adult topics may come up but we won’t rp torture or other
kinds of traumatic events
character building
- take 1 proscribed talent, pick the other yourself
- use the character builder spreadsheet, it’s beta though so ask
questions and give feedback - bonds to other pcs are necessary
secrets/clues
- tell players about my 3 clues rule?
- players need to establish bonds between their pcs, rp the clues
to the bonds - players can have a tie with one of the factions besides morticians
scenes/combats
morticians has many rules for combat to help us move through it
smoothly, accurately and hopefully kinda quickly.
morticians does not have many rules for narrative/role play.
this means we have more room to explore and invest in narrative
and role play.
the game will be about rules untill we all understand the rules
then the game will be using the rules to tell the story we want
maps
- I will be pulling a lot of maps from google maps and overlaying
a hex grid - most of our maps will be digital
- foes can be tokens or minis depending on player preferece
- players can play with digital tokens or minis
hazards
- share with players about the hazard system
- share how it integrates with the morticians core rules on random
encounters
TODO figure out how hazard system ties in with core rules
rewards
rewards will be coming from the CRB
we need to decide now how fantastic items can get
